Iterating with chat
Make changes, fix problems and grow your project one message at a time.
Build mode and Chat mode
Switch modes above the prompt box:
- Build changes your project. Every message produces a complete new version, and the preview reloads with it.
- Chat never touches your code. Use it to ask how something works, plan features, or talk through a bug. When you're ready, switch to Build and say "build what we discussed": the builder sees the whole conversation.
Builds and chat are charged by the tokens they use. Budget models are pure pay-per-token; premium models have a minimum per build. The pricing page lists every model's rate per million tokens.
How changes work
In Build mode, every message you send produces a complete new version of your project. The AI sees the current code and your recent conversation, so you can refer to things it built: "the timetable", "that blue button".
Good change requests
- One change or a small group of related changes per message.
- Name the screen and the element: "On the history screen, group workouts by week."
- Describe the result you want, and say what to keep: "Keep the layout, just change the colours to warm neutrals."
Fixing things
- If the preview shows an error, press Fix with AI on the error panel. It sends the exact error to the chat.
- If something looks wrong, describe what you see and what you expected.
While it's building
The progress checklist shows each stage and the number of lines written. Open the Code tab to watch the code arrive. If a reply is cut off before the code finishes, the preview keeps the previous version; send the request again.
Your conversation is saved
Every message is saved the moment you send it, so you can close the tab, come back later and keep building from where you left off. If you come back while a build is still running, you'll see Still building… and the result appears by itself. The builder remembers your recent conversation (about the last 30 messages) plus the full current code.
Going back
There's no one-click undo yet. To return to an earlier state, describe it ("go back to the single-column layout from before"), or keep important versions in GitHub (see Exporting your code).
Small screens
On a phone or narrow window, chat and preview are separate tabs. The prompt box is also under the preview, so you can keep making changes without switching.
