Data, sign-in and storage
Where your project's data lives today, and what's coming for databases and accounts.
Today: data stays on the device
- Apps save data with AsyncStorage, on the phone.
- Web Apps save data in the browser's localStorage.
This is ideal for personal tools, trackers, games and prototypes: no setup, nothing to pay for, and data stays with the user. It also means data isn't shared between devices or users.
In the Web App preview, saved data resets when the preview reloads. Your exported or published app keeps it for real (see Preview and testing).
Coming: a managed backend
A guided Supabase connection will give Web Apps a real Postgres database, user sign-in and storage for files their users upload, set up for you with no keys to paste.
Files you add while building (logos, photos, sounds) already work: see Images and files.
If you need a backend now
Export your project and add one yourself, for example a hosted database with an API in front of it. Keep any secret keys on the server (see Credentials and connections).
